Miami up to No. 3 in the 247Sports Team Rankings after 5-star OL Samson Okunlola
Miami is in elite company after landing Brockton (Mass.) Thayer Academy five-star offensive lineman Samson Okunlola on Thursday.
With the commitment from the nation’s No. 3 offensive tackle, the Hurricanes now hold the No. 3 ranked recruiting class, according to the 247Sports Team Rankings. Mario Cristobal’s 24-man trails only Alabama and Georgia, ranked No. 1 and No. 2 respectively.
That has Miami ahead of Notre Dame, Oklahoma, LSU, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Florida inside the top ten.
With a class score of 292.08, Miami’s class is already considered the best the program has ever held in the history of the 247Sports network. The program will also host some top targets like Plantation American Heritage Top247 running back Mark Fletcher and Miami Central four-star linebacker Stanquan Clark this coming weekend as Cristobal and his staff look to put the finishing touches on what is nearly a lock to finish as a top five class.
Okunlola is the third five-star to pick Miami this cycle and the second along the offensive line, which is a big deal as Cristobal and Alex Mirabal work to flip the overall talent in their unit. Bradenton IMG Academy five-star Francis Mauigoa and Okunlola are two potential day one contributors that set the foundation for the future of the offensive line.
That has to be extremely encouraging for Miami fans considering this is just the first full go-around for this staff on the recruiting trail.
Miami hasn’t signed a top ten class since the 2018 recruiting cycle that featured NFL talents like Greg Rousseau and Brevin Jordan.
