Tigers Fall in Four Sets to Miami – Clemson Tigers Official Athletics Site
CLEMSON, S.C. – Senior setter Mckenna Slavik and junior outside hitter Camryn Hannah hit career milestones, but the Clemson volleyball team fell to the Miami Hurricanes (17-9, 10-5 ACC) on Friday evening in Jervey Gym. Clemson fell in four sets (27-25, 21-25, 19-25, 19-25) to drop to 12-15 overall and 3-12 in the ACC.
Slavik tallied 44 assists on the night to bring her career total to 3,726 which ranks fifth all-time on Clemson’s career list jumping her two spots from where she began the evening. Hannah finished with 18.5 points to lead the Tigers while surpassing the 1,000-career point mark. Hannah accomplished the feat in 72 matches at Clemson.
The Tigers took the first set after a close battle that was led at the net by junior Colleen Finney. Finney clocked six kills and three blocks (one solo, two assisted) to bring the Tigers back from a four-point deficit. Slavik moved into sixth place on Clemson’s career list after finishing the first set with 14 assists. She’d move into fifth late in the fourth set. Hannah added four kills and three blocks, while McGrath tallied three kills as Clemson won set one.
Hannah continued her dominant performance in the second, clocking another four kills to help push her over the 1,000 career-point mark. Miami and Clemson tied the score nine times in the second set, but it was the Hurricanes that came out with the 25-21 set win. Clemson took an early lead in both the third and fourth sets, but strong scoring runs by Miami down the stretch and a .417 hitting percentage by the Hurricanes in set four proved to be the deciding factors as Clemson dropped the final two sets.
The Tigers had two players finish with double-doubles as Slavik added 10 digs to her 44 assists. Junior Cate Long’s 18 digs led Clemson, and she added 10 kills to complete the evening. Libero Devan Taylor also finished with a career-milestone evening surpassing 800 digs over the past two seasons.
