Miami Heat’s biggest question for Haywood Highsmith in 2022-23
The Miami Heat are still searching for answers and though Coach Spoelstra believes they are continuously improving, especially on the defensive side of the ball, they still have a few things to sure up as the season progresses.
While there isn’t a certain question in the following observation, it is an interesting observation nonetheless. When the depth of the Miami Heat has been challenged in certain spots this year, they’ve gone to the rookie, Nikola Jovic, over other guys.
And most notable among those other guys might be Haywood Highsmith.
And it’s not that going to Jovic was bad but with such seeming expectations for Highsmith this season after some of his showings last season, you would have thought he could settle into a nice backup rotational role. But again, in a season where the Heat’s depth has been challenged, he’s only managed to play in five of the Heat’s 10 contests thus far.
With Miami Heat already challenged this year, depth-wise, an answer was supposed to be Haywood Highsmith. However, it just hasn’t been that way.
And in those five appearances, he’s averaging just a half point, almost a rebound, no assist, just over a half steal, and not much else in the 5.4 minutes he is able to get on the court. That leads to this question.
Biggest Question For Haywood Highsmith: What is his role on this Miami Heat team?
This isn’t a rag on Highsmith session, as much as a question considering their needs, what they have on the roster, and what you’ve seen thus far. And it very well could all turn around immediately, with Highsmith having a breakout game, of sorts, any day now that gets him back going in the right direction.
Right now though, he just doesn’t seem to have his game or the trust of Coach Spoelstra for consistent enough minutes in the rotation to make an impact. That’s why this is his biggest question and for everyone’s sake, you hope that it works itself out soon.
