LIV Golf Miami live scores, results, highlights from Friday’s quarterfinals at Doral
An eventful, controversial and competitive inaugural season of LIV Golf has reached its finale.
The final tournament of the year kicks off on Friday as the 2022 LIV Team Championship gets underway from Miami. Twelve four-person teams will be duking it out to determine who will walk away with the massive $16 million grand prize.
The tournament is taking place at Trump National Doral’s “Blue Monster.” It’s a course that should be very familiar to golf fans, as it hosted a PGA Tour event annually from 1962 until 2016.
The field of 48 players is headlined by the No. 3-ranked golfer in the world, Cameron Smith, winner of this year’s Open Championship and Players Championship. Smith picked up his first LIV win last month in Chicago. Other notables include Dustin Johnson, Phil Mickelson, Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau.

The format this weekend will see the teams compete in match play on Friday and Saturday before moving to stroke play for the finals on Sunday. The teams seeded 1st-4th received byes in the first round, meaning Friday’s quarterfinals action will feature only the teams seeded 5th-12th.

LIV Golf Miami updates, highlights from Friday’s quarterfinals
(All teams Eastern)
1:15 p.m. — Mickelson rolls in a lengthy birdie putt on the 12th hole and the crowd responds with a big cheer. Smith has a chance to answer from about 15 feet and he cooly rolls it in to keep the match at all square.
1:13 p.m. — Brooks gets a bad break after a poor approach shot on the 5th hole, with his ball settling just on the edge of a green side bunker to set him up with a nasty stance. But he hits a great recovery shot and rolls a 5-footer in for par. Varner drains a par putt of his own to remain 2 up.
1:11 p.m. — Sihwan Kim bogies the 18th hole, leaving the door open for Westwood to even their match with a par. The Englishman takes advantage to move back to all square.
1:00 p.m. — Na thought he had made about a 20-footer to win the 18th hole over Poulter, even giving it his signature early walk. But it cruelly lips out, and the hole will be halved instead. Na remains 1 up.
12:58 p.m. — Mickelson sticks his approach on the 11th. After Smith can only muster a par, Lefty rolls in his putt to square the match. He could’ve been 2 down on the last hole, now he’s right back in it.
12:53 p.m. — Varner curls in a putt from about 15 feet for his second consecutive birdie. That gives him a 2 up lead on Brooks, an excellent start for the man known as HV3. Meanwhile, Brooks’ brother Chase drains a putt on the 5th hole to give him and Jason Kokrak a 3 up lead in their alternate-shot match.
12:48 p.m. — Poulter narrowly misses a long birdie putt on the 17th hole, then Na pulls out his signature move — walking in his putt from about 6 feet to take a 1 up lead.
12:41 p.m. — Brooks Koepka misses his birdie putt and Varner taps in to take a 1 up lead. On the other side of the course, Mickelson misses his long look at birdie to give Smith a chance to go 2 up. But the Aussie misses from just a few feet and Mickelson rolls in his par putt to stay 1 down.
12:38 p.m. — Smith sticks his approach in tight, while Mickelson can’t control the spin coming out of the rough and faces a birdie putt of about 30 feet to most likely halve the hole. Rough start for Phil so far.
12:36 p.m. — Varner III hit a beautiful approach shot on the 2nd hole to set up a short birdie putt. Koepka follows it up with a solid shot of his own to about 10 feet, but it’s advantage Varner there.
12:33 p.m. — Smith hit his tee shot into the rough on the par 5 10th hole, but safely chopped his 2nd shot over the water to set himself in good position. Mickelson’s drive found the fairway, but his second shot found the rough to set up a slightly more difficult approach.
12:30 p.m. — Koepka and Varner both had short birdie putts on hole 1. Both made them to halve the opening hole.
12:24 p.m. — Mickelson splashes out of the bunker, but his shot trickles well past the hole. Meanwhile, Smith lags his birdie putt up to about 2 feet. Mickelson misses his par putt, while Smith makes his to take a 1 up lead.

12:15 p.m. — The countdown clock hits zero, and the LIV Golf Team Championship is underway. Mickelson and Smith get things started at hole 9, a lengthy par 3. Mickelson pushes his tee shot right into the green side bunker, while Smith hits a nice shot to about 30 feet.
12:04 p.m. — The headline match of the day is arguably Phil Mickelson taking on Cameron Smith in Hy Flyers GC vs. Punch GC. Brooks Koepka vs. Harold Varner III and Ian Poulter vs. Kevin Na should also give us plenty of entertainment.
11:17 a.m. — Cleeks GC team captain Martin Kaymer was forced to withdraw with a wrist injury, so he’ll be replaced by Shergo Al Kurdi, a young pro from the nation of Jordan. Kurdi will now take on world No. 22 Joaquin Niemann in singles. No pressure, young fella.
