Dijon Johnson commits to the Florida Gators over Miami and Ohio State
The Florida Gators picked up their 22nd commitment on Thursday and their second commitment of the afternoon from an in-state prospect.
Defensive back Dijon Johnson (6-1, 190, Tampa, FL. Wharton) committed to the Florida Gators over Ohio State and Miami on Thursday.
Johnson who’s a former Ohio State commit visited Gainesville for Friday Night Lights in July and after that visit decided to de-commit from the Buckeyes and the Gators have been the favorites ever since.
The defensive back can play both corner and safety but it looks like the Gators will give him his first shot at safety as Johnson has clocked a 4.5 40 in the offseason.
As a junior Johnson had six interceptions and took four of those back for a touchdown and he already has one this year for his senior season.
Johnson is the fifth defensive back commit in the class as he joins Bryce Thornton, Ja’Keem Jackson, Jordan Castell, and Shariff Denson in the Class of 2023. Athlete Aaron Gates is also slated to play defensive back in college, but he plays both ways in high school.
Now that the Gators have picked up commitments from both Johnson and Thornton, the coaching staff will put all of their attention on defensive back Cormani McClain to fill the last remaining defensive spot in the class.
