Sergio Busquets Confirms FC Barcelona Exit, Will Accept Inter Miami Offer

FC Barcelona captain Sergio Busquets’ exit from the club has been confirmed, with the veteran about to accept an offer from Inter Miami.

The 34-year-old’s contract at Camp Nou expires at the end of the season, and it had been expected that he would call time on his career in Blaugrana which began in the first team when he became part of Pep Guardiola’s plans in the 2008-2009 season.

Unlike fellow ‘sacred cows’ Gerard Pique and Jordi Alba who have been confined to the bench under current coach Xavi Hernandez, Busquets still plays a prominent role in the starting XI as a pivot with the skipper’s armband.

Gradually, however, he has been getting less playing time as of late and has already missed three matches this term where he was replaced by Frenkie de Jong who Xavi reportedly sees as the Spaniard’s natural heir.

On Wednesday morning at SPORT, they report that Busquets has decided to bid ‘adios’ to the Catalans when his deal expires on June 30, and will accept a proposal from Inter Miami in the MLS.

Part-owned by David Beckham, the franchise is rumored to be the next stop out of Europe for the likes of Busquets’ former Barca teammates Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez, with Pique and Alba also having their name linked to it.

Barca are said to have offered Busquets a two-year deal to stay put, but Busquets only wanted one.

As president Joan Laporta and his board would not budge on this, however, and make concessions, Busquets is all set to make this campaign his last.

Negotiations between Inter Miami and Busquets are said to be “very advanced”, and Busquets will accept their offer when 2022/2023 has drawn to a close.

Given his advanced years and decision to continue his football journey over the Atlantic, November is also likely to bring his last appearance at the World Cup.

However things turn out, Busquets is certain to leave Barca as a club legend with eight La Liga crowns and three Champions League titles.

With these developments in mind, Xavi must also decide who replaces him as his captain.
