Issa Rae’s Black French Manicure at 2022 Emmys

Issa Rae is channeling the “black glam” nail aesthetic at this year’s Emmy Awards. The actor and producer arrived at the award show in a stunning razor-sharp bob, glowing skin, and a custom Sergio Hudson gown — both of which were only further punctuated by her simple black nail art.

Keeping the manicure fairly minimal, Rae opted only to wear black french tips on each finger. Her nails were also shaped into a sharp oval and kept void of any additional nail decals or charms. Black glam nails have been making their rounds thanks in part to Kourtney Kardashian’s grunge-glam wedding earlier this year. “Black glam nails are essentially just different variations of black nails and nail art,” celebrity manicurist Mar y Sol Inzerillo previously told POPSUGAR. “High shine or matte, nail art or single color, it doesn’t matter as long as they complement your look.”

Rae’s black glam nails are yet another ode to the beauty trends from the ’90s that are making their way back to mainstream pop culture. “Overall, the ’90s are back, and black nails were a huge trend back then,” Inzerillo says.
