Grundys double in Miami stakes

Trainer Jacqueline and driver Tyler Grundy captured two of the three harness racing stakes events offered on the closing day of Miami Fair on Saturday (Sep. 3).

The struck first with Andys Treasure (Andreoli Hanover) in The Juvenile. The freshman pacing colt, coming off a win in The Kindergarten, romped by three-and-a-half lengths in 2:05.1. Ak Nite Lady (Marc Fillion) finished second. Irish Luke (Blake Piwniuk) was sell back in third.

Andys Treasure, owned and bred by Aurel Vodon of Virden, is now three-for-four in his rookie season and has earned $13,130.

Ak Up N Attem (Andreoli Hanover) held on by a nose in The Golden Boy Stake over Manitoba Great Western Stake winner Emmetts Buddy (Kirk Rogers). The timer read 2:01.1. Jimmysinthehouse (Darryl Mason) finished third.

It was the first win of the year for Ak Up N Attem and his sixth lifetime in 16 tries. He has earned $18,666 for the Grundys, who share ownership of the three-year-old gelding.

Skys Little Spunk (Armbro Baylor) broke her maiden in the day’s remaining stake. After 12 winless starts, the sophomore filly led at every call for Piwniuk in The Silk Lace to score in 2:03.2. Sassy Libby (Fillion) nabbed This Girl Rules (Dean Rey) late for second.

Richard Rey trains Skys Little Spunk, whom he bred and owns. She finished third five times and second twice in her previous outings.

Piwniuk and Tyler Grundy were the day’s top drivers with three wins each.
