Baker McKenzie Moving Miami Office to New 55-Floor Tower in City

Baker McKenzie is moving its Miami operation to a 55-story tower under construction that is already drawing finance and tech companies descending on the city, the building’s developers said Monday.

The firm plans 18,000 square feet of office space at 830 Brickell in the city’s financial district, developers, OKO Group and Cain International said in a statement. It joins law firms Sidley Austin, which will occupy 60,000 square feet in the building, and Winston & Strawn in signing leases there.

Winston and Strawn, whose move to the building has been reported previously, has now signed a lease at 830 Brickell for 35,000 square feet, OKO and Cain said.

The building, due to be finished by the end of the year, is the first Class A+ freestanding office building to be built in the area in over a decade, according to the developers. The building’s 640,000 square feet of space is expected to be fully leased upon its completion, they said.

Hedge funds, private equity firms and Big Law are among those who have been scrambling for office space as companies move to the city for its low taxes and worker-friendly climate. Baker McKenzie lawyers will join building tenants including Ken Griffin’s Citadel, Microsoft Corp., Thoma Bravo and CI Financial Corp.

“This new space will be a reflection of our high-caliber talent who provide our multinational, diverse client base with a full range of legal services,” Scott Brandman, Baker McKenzie Miami and New York managing partner, said in a statement.

Baker McKenzie is currently located in the Sabadell Financial Center at 1111 Brickell Ave., according to the firm’s website. That location is less than a half mile from the new building.
