Miami Sweeps NU to Close Out the Hofstra Invitational


HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Miami proved to be too much for Niagara as the Canes picked up a sweep of the Purple Eagles Saturday morning in Hempstead. The Canes took each set by double-digit points, 25-7, 25-13, and 25-13
 
Match Recap
First Set
• Miami jumped out to a 7-0 lead forcing NU to call a timeout.
• Following the timeout, the Canes lead would grow to 12-0, before a service error put NU on the board.
• A Miami service error and an ace from Bella Peroni made it a 15-3 game.
• Miami would rattle off three-straight points before another error made it a 18-4 game.
• Niagara’s fifth, sixth, and seventh points came via kills from Laryssa Imbuzeiro and Jenna Vogen.
• Miami would seal the set one victory on a Niagara service error.
 
Set 2
• With the score 14-3, the Purple Eagles would rattle off three straight points to pull within eight, 14-6.
Kinga Wronska recorded back-to-back kills for Niagara, putting the Purple Eagles down eight, 18-10.
• The Canes would score four unanswered before an attack error put an end to their run and made the score 22-11.
Lexi Bapst would make it a 22-12 game with her fourth kill.
• Miami would end the set on a 3-1 run to take a 2-0 lead over NU.
 
Set 3
Jenna Vogen recorded a kill to make it a 5-3 game in favor of the Canes early on in set three.
• Miami would go on a 5-0 run to take a 10-3 lead and force NU to take a timeout.
• Following the timeout, Niagara outscored Miami 3-2 over the next five points to make it a 12-6 game.
Casey Brown picked up a kill to cut the Miami lead in half, 14-7.
• A kill from Taylor Allen made it a seven-point game once again, 18-11.
• Niagara would only tally two more points over the remainder of the set as Miami picked up the sweep with a 25-13 win in set three.  
 
Niagara Notes
• Saturday marked the first ever meeting with Miami.
• Niagara drops to 1-10 all-time against the ACC.
• Each match for NU during the Hofstra Invitational ended in a sweep. Niagara swept Bryant and was swept by Hofstra and Miami. 
• Vogeen led the way with six kills, followed by Wronska and Bapst with five apiece.
Kylie Blessing picked up a team-high 11 assists, followed by Brown with four and Bella Peroni with three.
• Peroni recorded Niagara’s lone service ace in the match.
 
Up Next
• Niagara will play in the Rose Hill Classic, hosted by Fordham, next weekend. The Purple and White will take on Penn, Fordham and FDU in the two-day tournament.
