Hofstra Drops Contest To Miami (FL)


Hempstead, NY – Senior Zyare Abdul-Rahim and freshman Izadora Stedile each posted a match-high 11 kills, but it was not enough as the Hofstra volleyball team dropped its first match of the season to Miami (FL) on Friday evening at the David S. Mack Physical Education Center. The match was the Pride’s second at the Hofstra Invitational after earning a win over Niagara this morning. 

Hofstra slips to 1-1 on the season, while Miami (FL) improves to 2-0. 

The Pride fell by identical 25-15 scores in the first two sets before battling to a 25-18 final in the third stanza. 

Abdul-Rahim had four kills in the first set and five in the third set, while Stedile tallied three in the first, five in the second, and three in the third. 

Hofstra was unable to get on track offensively in the match as they hit just .129 for the contest. 

Sophomore Beatriz Alves had 27 assists and four digs for Hofstra. 

Peyman Yardimici led Miami (FL) with nine kills and added six digs. 

Hofstra will take on Bryant tomorrow at 1 p.m. in the final match of the tournament. 

NOTES

– Hofstra is now 1-1 all-time against Miami (FL). It was the first meeting between the teams since 2007. 

– Abdul-Rahm has reached double figures in kills in both matches this season after reaching double figures 12 times a season ago. 

– Alves has tallied double figure assists in all 31 matches during her career.
