Women’s Soccer earns shutout victory at Miami (OH)
OXFORD, Ohio — The Wright State women’s soccer program secured a 1-0 shutout victory over Miami (OH) on Thursday evening at Bobby Kramig Field.
The Raiders improved to 2-1 on the season, while Miami (OH) fell to 1-1-1 overall.
Kaylin Helinski netted the match’s only goal in the 48th minute off a corner kick from Olivia Mace. WSU goalkeeper Jessika Seward notched five saves en route to her second collegiate shutout.
Wright State tallied eight shots in the win, including five on goal. Lauren Borchert paced the attack with a team-leading four shots, one on goal, while Helinski had two of her own. Josie Krupp and Michelle Rings added one shot on goal in the non-conference battle.
Freshman defender Kaylee Pham and Seward were the lone Raiders to play the entirety of the match. WSU showed off its depth with 21 Raiders logging playing time, including 15 individuals with 30-plus minutes of action.
Miami equaled WSU in shots with eight, led by Emily Sexton with two shots on goal. Izzie Vaccari had three saves in goal for the Redhawks. Miami threatened in the second half with five shots in the final 30 minutes, but the Raider defense held off the late charge to clinch the win.
The Raiders will return to action for their home opener on Sunday, August 28, against Central Michigan. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. in the non-conference contest at Alumni Field.
