NBA Rumors: Miami Heat Could Make A Move For Montrezl Harrell
The Miami Heat have been a franchise that like its role players to be tough and gritty. This has often helped them build contending teams around the stars they attract, with the Heat just falling short of making the NBA Finals this season, for example. And the summer has already cost them one of their important role players, with PJ Tucker choosing to sign with the Philadelphia 76ers this offseason.
The Heat have been linked with several acquisitions and trades, but one name that has now come up for the second time during this offseason is Montrezl Harrell. Trez is an undersized center but serviceable as a backup, and someone who can score points and play tough as a substitute big man.
And an NBA executive told Heavy.com’s Sean Deveney that the Heat are the team to watch when it comes to acquiring Montrezl. The 28-year-old has a good amount of NBA experience, making signing him a no-brainer, but it depends on whether he can clear the ongoing case against him for felony drug charges.
“Miami would be one team to look out for. Especially if they make a big move and they have a lot of roster holes that need to be filled on the cheap late in the summer,” the exec said. “They need another big guy either way. He could be sitting there. It depends on if the case goes away or what.”
The Heat potentially has bigger fish to fry, they have been mentioned as suitors for Kevin Durant as well as Donovan Mitchell. Getting either of these stars could see them having to give up a lot of quality players, which means players like Harrell would be the way to go to fill up the roster. Harrell averaged nearly 13 points per game in his career. If everything else is normal, he could well be a good addition for the Heat.
