Here are the top five stories in Miami today:

1. Several South Florida hospitals were ranked among the top in the state by U.S. News. On the list are Baptist Hospital of Miami, UMHC-Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center of Miami, Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach, and more. (Florida Patch)

2. The Miami-Dade School Board will hold a special meeting Thursday to discuss what to do about sexual education after recently failing to approve textbooks for instruction in a 5-4 vote. The recent decision has left student’s in one of the country’s largest school districts without materials to learn from for this curriculum. (CBS Miami)

3. A Miami Beach condominium located in the 400 block of Alton Road has been sold for $3,300,000 or $1,529 per square foot. The property features three bedrooms and three bathrooms and was built in 2005. (Subscription: Miami Herald)

4. The hospitality that owns the South Beach restaurant Mila, Riviera Dining Group, has purchased the Peacock Garden café property in Coconut Grove, according to The Real Deal. PokerStars billionaire Mark Scheinber owns a stake in the buyer. (The Real Deal – Miami)

5. Police officers arrested a couple on Sunday and accused them of abandoning their 2-year-old son in a car to go to a bar in South Beach. A security guard told police that the parents left their son in the car after the security guard refused the child entry into the Clevelander South Beach. (WPLG Local 10)

• Housing Trust Group, an affordable housing developer in South Florida and in numerous areas around the country, has announced the appointment of Mario Robaina II as chief financial office (CFO). Robaina received his Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from Stanford University and holds an MBA from the University of Miami focusing on Finance and Management. (Miami’s Community News)
• Pathman Lewis, LLP has changed its name to Pathman Schermer Tandy, LLP as Richard Schermer and Aaron Tandy are now name partners. (Miami’s Community News)
• A former real estate agent whose license had been revoked by the state has allegedly operated a real estate scam out of Hialeah and has been arrested. 47-year-old Reyner Labrada of Miami Lakes, ran “Miami Neighborhood Realty” and later “305 Rentals & Sales Realty LLC” out of an office complex at 7600 W. 20th Ave. in Hialeah. • Jurors in the penalty trial of Florida school shooter Nikolas Cruz were shown the AR-15-style rifle that Cruz used to murder 17 students and staff members four years ago. (WSVN)
