Markieff Morris Eyeing A Contender
The Miami Heat still have a lot going on when it comes to their offseason. While a lot of teams are already starting to take final form on how they will look in the coming NBA season, the Miami Heat are still patiently waiting to pounce on their preferred finishing touch or touches.
With Kevin Durant’s request to leave the Brooklyn Nets, the trade market is surely going berserk in waiting for that domino to fall. Well, it’ll likely be dominos, as it’ll probably involve multiple teams when you consider what the Nets are seeking in return.
That whole scenario has caused everything to be a bit wanky and especially from the Miami Heat’s perspective, however, it hasn’t stopped them from doing smaller deals. Though they got Victor Oladipo and Dewayne Dedmon inked to new deals just prior to the Durant request going public, they did get Caleb Martin re-signed last week.
After losing P.J. Tucker, you would think that bringing back the next guy in question would be something they are eagerly looking to do as well. However, the following report seems to paint a more cloudy picture.
The Miami Heat are patiently waiting for the KD drama to shake out, but they are doing smaller deals. Bringing Markieff Morris back should be one of them.
When it comes to Markieff Morris, you should more than want to have him back as a Miami Heat fan. He won’t cost a ton, while he could provide immense value.
Though you didn’t get to see as much of him last season as many had hoped for, after the infamous dustup in Denver that led to him missing the majority of the remaining regular season, he did show you all he could do for this Heat team in his minutes prior to and after that incident.
He is a guy that can come in and give you quality minutes as a forward, even being the five in short bursts for the Heat this past season, while providing toughness, nastiness, physicality, and grit. He is a guy that is comfortable scoring at all three levels, while he can create shot opportunities for himself.
Though he is no defensive stopper, he more than holds his own there, where his toughness, versatility, and craftiness more than help make up for what he lacks on that side. Again, after losing P.J. Tucker, it would be a wise move for the Miami Heat to try and get him back in the fold.
While Morris eyes a contender, that could be the Heat—or one of a few other teams around the league. Heck, he recently expressed a desire to return home to play for the Philadelphia 76ers, at some point.
Only time will tell and if the Miami Heat are holding off there in a need to maintain flexibility to make bigger moves, you totally get it but if it won’t impact landing a whale like KD—they should definitely be looking to get him back in the mix.
