According to reports out of Miami, former Toronto FC attacking midfielder Alejandro Pozuelo was so excited about joining the south Florida MLS club that when he was picked up at the airport by Chris Henderson, Inter Miami chief soccer officer and sporting director, Pozuelo “spoke of his excitement to join the project and insisted on joining training Thursday morning.”

“Pozuelo is a game-changer in this league,” Miami head coach Phil Neville told reporters this week. “If you saw the reactions of our players when they found out and you speak to veteran players who have played against him, you ask: What is he like? They say he’s a fantastic player, an MVP.”

Pozuelo, who played three and a half seasons in Toronto and was named the MLS MVP in 2020, was acquired by Miami in a trade from TFC for just $150,000 in General Allocation Money up front.

Pozuelo originally came to MLS in a blockbuster $11-million transfer from Belgium’s KRC Genk. TFC wanted to clear a DP spot and are going after Juventus forward/attacking midfielder Federico Bernardeschi.

Henderson said Miami and TFC had been in conversations for “the last few weeks” about a trade.
