What will the Miami Hurricanes accomplish this year?
What type of season should Miami Hurricanes fans expect in 2022?
Its a fair question for a team that made sweeping changes following a disappointing 2021 season in which UM finished with a 7-5 record.
The university leadership has invested heavily into the football program, hiring Mario Crsitobal to lead the football program and Dan Radakovich as the athletic director.
There are some reasons for optimism going into the 2022 season.
Cristobal has assembled an all-star coaching staff that will represent the strongest UM coaching staff in over a decade with reigning Broyles Award winner Josh Gattis, who arrives from Michigan, calling the plays for the offense and veteran defensive coordinator Kevin Steele coordinating the defense.
The UM coach has also added well respected assistants from around the country like Kevin Smith (Ole Miss) to coach running backs, Alex Mirabal (Oregon) to coach the offensive line, Charlie Strong, who has been the head coach at places like Texas and Louisville, to serve as co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach, and Jahmile Addae (Georgia) to coach the defensive back group.
From a player personnel standpoint, the Hurricanes do feature one of the best quarterbacks in the country in Tyler Van Dyke, who threw for 2,931 yards with 25 touchdowns and six interceptions through ten games when he took over for an injured D’Eriq King.
Van Dyke is generating way-too-early first round pick buzz for the 2023 NFL Draft.
On the defensive side of the ball, Cristobal has added significant depth via the transfer portal with immediate impact additions like: DL Akheem Mesidor, Edge Mitchell Agude, LB Caleb Johnson, CB Daryl Porter Jr., DL Jacob Lichtenstein, DL Antonio Moultrie, and DL Darrell Jackson.
Miami is also counting on the development of young and inexperienced players like DB James Williams, DB Avantae Williams, and DT Leonard Taylor to take the next step and start turning potential into production.
This 2022 season is going to be an exciting one and we want to know what you expect moving forward.
