Miami football standing ahead of Lamar Seymore July 11 re-commitment

Former Miami football commit Lamar Seymore tweeted on Tuesday he will announce his re-commitment on July 11. Seymore is the brother of Miami offensive lineman Laurance. Miami previously held a Seymore commitment from April 16, 2020, through June 23, 2022. Miami currently has two 2023 WRs commits.

Seymore is the 837th ranked player, 114th WR and 122nd in Florida in the Class of 2023. Prior to de-committing from the Miami football program, Seymore took official visits to Central Florida and Pittsburgh in June. No 247 Sports crystal balls have been logged for Seymore. On3 lists Miami at 86.3 percent for a Seymore commitment.

The On3 projection seems antiquated. Miami recruiting analyst Michael Yero tweeted a picture last month of Seymore wearing a Pittsburgh t-shirt. Seymore tweeted a top five of Auburn, Miami, Penn State, Pittsburgh, and UCF on July 1. Central Florida and Pittsburgh are the reported co-favorites for a Seymore commitment.

Miami is recruiting higher-rated WRs. Four-star WR Andy Jean, a four-star prospect who was previously committed to Miami is still considering the Hurricanes. Top 10 2023 wideout Hykeem Williams is also strongly considering Miami. The Hurricanes have commitments from four-star WRs Nathaniel Joseph and Robby Washington.

Miami is also awaiting the commitment of five-star WR Jalen Brown on Friday. Brown was originally projected to commit to Miami. LSU began trending for Brown on Wednesday with four crystal balls being logged towards the Tigers. Miami tight ends coach Stephen Field has been leading the recruitment of Seymore.

Miami should be expected to sign three or four WRs in the 2023 class. The Hurricanes signed four-star prospect Isaiah Horton and junior college transfer Colbie Young as the sole WRs in the 2022 class. Miami needs to continue adding depth at WR for the future. All of the current Miami WRs have eligibility beyond the 2022 season.

Miami WRs Frank Ladson, Xavier Restrepo and Key’Shawn Smith are all eligible to enter the 2023 NFL Draft. Ladson has two years of eligibility remaining and Restrepo and Smith have three because of the Covid year. Miami also returns sophomore WRs Romello Brinson, Jacolby George and Brashard Smith to the 2022 roster.
