Michel Hausmann knew from a very young age that he felt passionate about theater, and after resisting it for some years, he finally decided to dedicate his professional career to this art.
As co-founder and artistic director of Miami New Drama, the resident company and operator of the historic Colony Theatre on Miami Beach, he has produced “Our Town” and “Queen of Basel,” plays that he also directed, and “Terror,” “One Night in Miami,” and co-produced “The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity,” among others.
Mr. Hausmann is also the book writer and director of “The Golem of Havana,” a critically-acclaimed original musical that has been produced across the US, including a sold-out extended run at the Colony Theatre.
As a Venezuelan-born theater director, producer, and writer, he started his first award-winning theater company in Venezuela, where he directed over a dozen productions. The political climate in his country led him to exile, and he found a new home in Miami.
Mr. Hausmann is a Drama League Award winner, New York Theater Workshop 2050 Fellow, an IRNE nominee, a Silver Palm Award winner, Richard Rodgers Award finalist, and a two-time Knights Arts Challenge Award recipient.
Mr. Hausmann spoke with Miami Today reporter Gabriela Henriquez Stoikow.
