🌱Miami ‘Epicenter’ Of U.S. Housing Crisis + Hot Dog Factory To Open

Hello all. I’m back with your fresh edition of the Miami Daily. Here’s all the community news you need to know right now…

First, today’s weather:

A stray shower in the morning. High: 88 Low: 80.

📢 I’m looking for business owners and marketers in Miami who want to build awareness, connect with customers and increase sales.

I have a limited number of sponsorships available to introduce our Miami Daily readers to local businesses they need to know about. If that’s you, then I invite you to learn more and secure your spot now.

Here are the top five stories in Miami today:

1. Two officers with the Miami Police Department asked for whistleblower protection after coming forward with allegations of activities of corruption against Chief Manuel Morales. The city had no objection to the request to start the process for whistleblowers protection for Commander Brandon Lanier and Detective Wanda Jean-Baptiste. (NBC Miami)

2. Marcia Fudge, the U.S. secretary of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), called Miami the “epicenter” of a housing crisis in the United States on Tuesday during a visit to South Florida. Recent reports show Miami as one of the most expensive cities in the United States. Fudge used the visit to urge local and state leaders not to wait on spending federal aid from COVID-19 relief legislation and other programs recently passed. (Subscription: Miami Herald)

3. Jury selection in the Parkland school shooter’s death penalty trial continued on Tuesday in Fort Lauderdale. Broward Circuit Judge Elizabeth Scherer wants the trial to start July 18 and alternates to be ready to serve if needed. (WPLG Local 10)

4. The Original Hot Dog Factory will open its first Florida location in Miami on July 11, just in time to celebrate National Hot Dog Month, which occurs every July. The franchise first opened in 2010 and has become well-known thanks to the Real Housewives franchise. (Miami New Times)

5. An affiliate of Lalezarian Properties has obtained a $150 million construction loan to build an apartment tower at Miami Worldcenter. Lalezarian’s project was approved for 565 apartments, a 3,000-square-foot restaurant and 401 parking spaces in 53 stories. (Subscription: South Florida Business Journal)
