MATCH RECAP: Inter Miami CF II Falls to Columbus Crew 2 on the Road
Inter Miami CF II fell 5-0 to league-leading Columbus Crew 2 at Historic Crew Stadium on Thursday night.
Inter Miami II’s starting XI for the match CJ dos Santos in goal; Israel Boatwright, Tyler Hall, Abel Caputo, and Tyler Bagley in defense; David Ruiz, Benjamin Cremaschi, and Braxton Najib in midfield; and Romeo Beckham, Shaan Hundal, and Shanyder Borgelin leading the attack.
The match marked Boatwright’s first professional start in just his second appearance for Inter Miami II. Bagley and Hundal, meanwhile, entered the match on the back of a match in which they both scored to lead the team to victory.
Columbus opened the scoring early in the match, taking the lead in the eighth minute as Noah Fuson latched onto a through ball from Marco Micaletto and found the back of the net to make it 1-0. The hosts then doubled the lead in the 37th minute when Jacen Russell-Rowe received a pass from Aidan Wolf, entered the box and struck to make it 2-0.
Columbus expanded its lead early in the second half when a cross was deflected back to the top of the box, where Wolf met the ball and drove a powerful shot into the back of the net to make it 3-0. In the 70th minute, Justin Malou headed home a corner to make it 4-0, while Russell-Rowe scored his second goal in the 85th minute to make it 5-0; the scoreline held through the final whistle.
The second half offered a milestone moment for Inter Miami Academy product Bryan Destin, however, with the striker coming on as a substitute to make his professional debut.
Inter Miami II will now have over a week to recover ahead of its next match, a home game against FC Cincinnati 2 on Sunday, June 19 at 8 p.m. ET.
