Here are the top five stories in Miami today:

1. Heavy rains led to flooding in parts of Miami, AccuWeather’s Bill Wadell reported on Saturday that roadways were flooded with “waist-deep” water at one point. People struggled to get out of their cars, which resulted in many climbing through their sunroofs to escape from their cars. Viral photos and videos showed the way the waters consumed South Florida. 2. Rainy weather moving through South Florida over the weekend has complicated plans for travelers flying. There have been hundreds of canceled and delayed flights since Friday. Saturday morning brought more. (WPLG Local 10)

3. Sabina Khizroev, a freshman at Miami Palmetto Senior High School earned an honorable mention for her 60-second video “Beat the Heat: Implementing Green Roofs” in the 11th annual “World of 7 Billion” video contest. The contest was organized and promoted during the 2021-2022 school year by Population Education, a program of Population Connection. (Miami’s Community News)

4. IT powerhouse Kaseya has expanded its headquarters in Miami by leasing three floors of office space at 800 Brickell. Kaseya is a provider, designer and developer of unified IT management and security software for managed service providers and small to mid-size businesses. (Miami Today)

5. Chicago developer, Trilogy Real Estate Group, has announced plans to build two high-rise apartment buildings in Edgewater with 600 apartments. “The capital is fully raised for the construction of both towers,” the developer said. (The Next Miami)

  • The tropical weather caused a sewage overflow in Miami-Dade, causing a no-swim advisory. Sampling will be conducted by the Florida Department of Health in Miami-Dade County and the Department of Regulatory and Economic Resources and the advisory remains in effect until two consecutive days of clear testing occur.
