Miami baseball top 3 overall seed in latest bracketology
The Miami baseball team remains the third seed nationally in the latest bracketology from College Sports Madness. Miami would host Alabama State, Florida and Wofford in the latest projections for the NCAA Tournament. Miami is 37-15 entering the final week of the 2022 regular season. Notre Dame visits Miami this weekend.
First place in the ACC is at stake between Miami and Notre Dame. The Miami baseball team is 18-9 in the ACC. Notre Dame travels South with a 32-11 overall record and 15-9 in the ACC. The team with the best winning percentage will be the higher seed in the ACC Tournament. Louisville and Virginia Tech can still win the ACC.
The Cardinals enter the final weekend 36-15-1 and 16-10-1 in the ACC. The Hokies are 37-11 overall and 16-9 in the ACC. Miami did not play Louisville this season. Virginia Tech won two of three versus Miami last month in Blacksburg. Miami could be seeded between first and sixth in the ACC Tournament next week in Charlotte.
The Hurricanes have their own fate at stake this weekend. If Miami wins the series against Notre Dame this weekend they will win the ACC, the Coastal Division and earn the top seed in the ACC Tournament. The top 12 teams in the ACC make the tournament. Boston College has already been eliminated from the ACC Tournament.
Clemson and Duke are contending for the last spot in the ACC Tournament. The Miami baseball team needs a strong series against Notre Dame and a good performance in the ACC Tournament to solidify itself as a top-eight national seed for the NCAA Tournament. The top eight seeds would host the Super Regional if they advance.
Eleven ACC teams including Miami are projected to earn NCAA Tournament berths by College Sports Madness. Florida State, Louisville, Miami, Notre Dame, Virginia and Virginia Tech are projected as regional hosts. All but Florida State and Notre Dame are ranked in the top eight.
Miami enters the series against Notre Dame with three straight losses. The Hurricanes have lost three of their last four series in the ACC. Miami lost the final two games of their series to Florida State last weekend and on Tuesday night against Florida Gulf Coast. The series loss at FSU snapped a six-game winning streak.
Miami lost two out of three to Florida at home after winning the opening game of the series in February. The Gators and Hurricanes were in the Gainesville Regional last season but did not play. South Alabama eliminated Florida and Miami but lost in the regional final to South Florida. The Bulls were swept by Texas in the Super Regional.
Miami dropped from 11th to eighth in the baseball RPI after the series loss to Florida State. Projected regional opponents Florida are 13th in the RPI, Alabama State is 28-22 and 221st in the RPI and Wofford is 37-14 overall and 30th in the RPI. Three teams in the top 30 would make the Coral Gables Regional one of the toughest.
