Patriots sign Miami QB D’Eriq King, a potential WR, as undrafted free agent (report)

The New England Patriots have reportedly signed one of the more intriguing undrafted prospects out of this year’s draft.

According to reporter Jordan Schultz, the Patriots are former Miami quarterback D’Eriq King as an undrafted free agent following this weekend’s NFL Draft.

King was a dynamic dual-threat quarterback in college, first for Houston and later at Miami. However, there’s a chance he could switch positions at the NFL level to take advantage of his athleticism.

At 5-foot-8, King is far shorter than what most teams look for in an NFL quarterback. However, he has tremendous quickness, something he showcased as a runner in college. King ran a respectable 4.60 in the 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine along with a 7.26 3 cone drill.

According to Pro Football Network’s Aaron Wilson, the Patriots were among the teams to bring in King for a pre-draft workout “with an emphasis on his quarterback skills.” However, Wilson did note that teams are also looking at him as a slot receiver.
