Miami Hurricanes DE Cyrus Moss excites National CFB writer

Defensive end Cyrus Moss is the highest-ranked Miami Hurricanes signee in the 2022 class. Matt Howe of 247 Sports is excited about Moss in his article “College football recruiting: ACC freshman sparking excitement for every team.” Moss is part of a suddenly deep Miami group of edge rushers.

Nyjalik Kelly and Moss are the Miami Hurricanes future star edge rushers as 2022 signees. Since spring practice began on March 7 Miami has signed edge-rushing transfers Mitchell Agude from UCLA and Akheem Mesidor from West Virginia. Agude and Mesidor will be favored to start for Miami this fall.

Returnees Jahfari Harvey and Chantz Williams will compete to be a part of the rotation for Miami at defensive end. Moss was one of the cornerstones for the 2022 Miami class. If head coach Mario Cristobal had stayed at Oregon, Moss would likely be with the Ducks. Moss is the latest player from Las Vegas Bishop Gorman to Miami.

Previous Miami Hurricanes players who are Bishop Gorman alums are quarterback Tate Martell, safety Bubba Bolden and tight end Brevin Jordan. Jordan helped start a pipeline to the legendary football power. With the connections Cristobal has on the West Coast, expect Miami to sign more players from there.

Cyrus Moss, DE 

“Although the Hurricanes did not land any five-star recruits in this year’s cycle, they did sign 10 four-star recruits, most in the ACC. Edge rusher Cyrus Moss out of Las Vegas (Nev.) Bishop Gorman is their highest-ranked signee, checking in at No. 69 nationally and No. 8 among defensive ends.

247Sports mountain region recruiting analyst Blair Angulo projects Moss as a first-round NFL draft pick and gave him a pro comparison to (Jacksonville Jaguars DE) Arden Key.“

Moss played safety and linebacker in college. The athleticism that Moss brings to Miami is reminiscent of former DE Greg Rousseau. Rousseau was a safety and wide receiver at Champagnat Catholic. Miami will be able to use Moss’ athleticism to move him around on defense.

Rousseau often lined up over the center with his 6’6 frame. Moss enters Miami 6’6, 220 pounds. Moss had 63 tackles, 16 tackles for loss and six sacks in his final high school season. The future for Moss is exciting. With the edge-rushing depth that Miami has entering the 2022 season, Moss shouldn’t be expected to post big numbers.
