Entérate con Verizon: Bienvenidos a Miami.


Happy Wednesday, V Team! On Today’s edition of Up To Speed, Diana Alvear hosted another episode of Entérate, this time in Miami, to share some exciting news for the Latinx community.

Global Choice is expanding

As you may know, Verizon’s Global Choice plan gives customers up to five hours of calling time every month to a country of their choice, plus discounted calling to more than 220 other countries. We recently announced the addition of new countries, including Cuba, to this plan. For both new and existing customers, Global Choice calling to one of 17 countries in Latin America is now included with select 5G Unlimited plans at no additional cost. It’s especially big news in South Florida, home to a large Cuban-American community.

Diana spoke with Rene Toirac, a retail manager at one of our South Beach locations, to find out what the news means to customers.

“That is huge,” Rene said. “A lot of my customers are Cubans, and that is the first thing they always ask: ‘Do you have calling to Cuba?’ … Now, with the calling plan to Cuba, that’s a game-changer.”

Nova Credit partnership

A few weeks ago, Verizon announced an exclusive partnership with Nova Credit that lets your international credit history travel with you. Newcomers relocating from certain countries to the U.S. for work, study or personal reasons can now seamlessly opt-in to share their international credit history with Verizon as part of the application process.

This partnership makes it easier for people new to America to get the best financing on the latest devices, and removes a roadblock to credit that newcomers to the U.S. have historically faced.

Investing in our communities

Verizon is dedicated to creating strategic, hyperlocal partnerships with nonprofits to solve community challenges. One such partnership with The Idea Center at Miami-Dade College will give entrepreneurs from all backgrounds the support and resources to succeed.

Venezuelan mother-daughter duo Mariedna Castro and Ana Quero, owners of My Tea Bar, can speak to these benefits. They explained how difficult it can be to run a business and how the skills they’ve learned at The Idea Center have contributed to their success.

“Education in business is something that our community needs,” Mariedna said. “I really thank Verizon for putting their money into centers like the Idea Center, because it’s giving us the tools to go the extra mile, improve our life and improve our community.”
