Seattle Sounders 0 – 1 Inter Miami FC

File under Curse of the CONCACAF Champions League: After holding NYCFC to a 1-1 draw and advancing to the CCL Finals, Seattle lost in front of a 30,000-strong home crowd to a comically incompetent Inter Miami. Maybe it was a tactical loss to keep he squad fit? The Sounders flew back to Seattle directly after Wednesday’s night game and reportedly didn’t touch down until 3 am—head coach Brian Schmetzer made ten changes to the lineup, even giving the night offf to Stefan Frei, goalkeeper hero of the CCL draw. Either way, it was some of the most desperate, disjointed soccer you’ll ever see.

New Jersey Red Bulls 0 – 0 FC Dallas

Call it the Paradox of Harrison: The Red Bulls are winless at home in 2022, and yet are tied for third place in the Eastern Conference. As our frenemies over at Once a Metro put it, the game was “more dominance followed by disappointment” as the Red Bulls outshot Dallas 20 to five but couldn’t find a goal on Saturday, or a win at Red Bull Arena this season.

NYCFC 6 – 0 Real Salt Lake

ICYMI, New York City roared back from Wednesday’s 1-1 draw in the CCL Semifinals against Seattle with a 6-0 demolition of RSL. Not only does that scoreline equal the biggest win in club history, the four goals scored by Taty Castellanos are the most ever for a New York City player in a single game.

LAFC 3 – 1 Sporting KC

What should have been a quotidian win for top-of-the-table LAFC over cellar-dwellers Sporting KC turned almost turned into a contest—but then LAFC tightened the screws. After a sloppy own-goal gifted Kansas City the lead, LAFC struck back with three goals—including Ismael Tajouri-Shradi’s 70th-minute banger. (See below). LAFC asserted their top-dog-for-now status with this win, leading the league with 16 points after seven games and a +10 goal differential.

Goal of the Week

Ismael Tajouri-Shradi will always have a place in the hearts of the NYCFC faithful, but we swear the selection of his arcing shot for Goal of the Week was completely unbiased. (Miss you, ITS!!!)
