Five-star quarterback Dante Moore discusses Miami football recruitment
Five-star 2023 quarterback Dante Moore who is close to South Florida elite wide receivers Jalen Brown and Brandon Inniss spoke to 247 Sports Notre Dame website Irish Illustrated this weekend. Late in the interview, Moore discussed his recruitment with the Miami football program.
None of the four current commits to the 2023 Miami football class are quarterbacks. The highest-ranked commit to the 2023 Miami football class is four-star athlete Robby Washington who is projected as a WR at the next level. Moore has taken two unofficial visits to Coral Gables this year.
Moore and four-star QB Jaden Rashada seem to be the two signal-callers that the Miami football program is pursuing the hardest. Miami can begin building a foundation for a top 10 class if they can receive a commitment from any combination of Brown, Inniss and Moore. Only Brown is currently trending to Miami.
The elite players keep in touch with each other. Top players, particularly at the skill positions play with and against each other at seven-on-seven tournaments. Moore is carefully evaluating where he wants to take official visits. No timeline has been made on when Moore will take his official visits or announce a commitment date.
ON IF HE OWES IT TO SOUTHERN SCHOOLS TO TAKE AN OFFICIAL VISIT
“So one thing for sure that I wanted to include was that I forgot to say was about Miami. Miami is for sure after me. Being down there at ‘the U’ was just insane, to be honest. I got down there probably twice. I was down there in January and a couple of weeks ago. Being down there was great.
But as of now, you want to take officials because everything is basically being paid for. flights and everything. Being up North, we’ve got money and all that but like I said, not all the money in the world, so I can’t take an unofficial anywhere I go since of how money and everything is.
For officials, you want to take advantage of the things that you can do, such as flying and everything… I’m trying to enjoy it all, so I’ll be taking all my five officials. I gotta get my whole family on board, so I gotta take advantage of the opportunities.”
As an elite QB, Moore will likely be one of the leaders of the class whatever program he commits to. Tom Loy of Irish Illustrated asked Moore who he will be recruiting when he commits other than four-star WR Carnell Tate. Moore discussed his relationships with Brown and Inniss and their discussions about recruiting.
ON WHO HE WILL BE RECRUITING WHEN HE COMMITS…
“So actually when I was down in San Antonio, me and Brandon Inniss, that was my first time meeting him in person, he was a great guy. We were talking about our process a little bit. I was actually on a five day trip together with Jalen Brown, he’s from down South and Miami.
So, on a five day trip, we had long talks about everything going on. He’s a guy I’m really close with and I’ve seen his tape and I’ve seen how he does it at camps and 7-on-7. Those are probably the three I have on my board as of people I want to recruit and see what I’m doing. I appreciate them three a lot.”
Brown is from Gulliver Prep and Inniss from American Heritage. Miami needs to start keeping the elite local WRs home. The Hurricanes added former four-star 2019 Clemson WR signee Frank Ladson as a transfer during the 2022 offseason. Ladson is a South Dade alum. A commitment from Brown would be a huge boost for 2023.
When QB usually commit the dominoes begin to fall. Only four of the top 10 QBs are currently committed. The highest-ranked QB, Malachi Nelson to USC is the top signal-caller for 2023 who has committed. Moore is making an effort to ensure he will have a good rapport with potential WR teammates in the future.
