Inter Miami has now gone five matches without a win in MLS
Five games into the Major League Soccer season, and while some teams are already showing that they are serious contenders for the title, the disappointing approaches of others suggest that they will suffer throughout the year if their managers do not dare to take the helm and appoint the right coaches to right the ship.
In free fall
Inter Miami seems doomed to suffer under English coach Phil Neville who, as a personal friend of David Beckham, took on the challenge of making the Florida team a candidate for a place at the top of the standings. However, the numbers show the opposite, as Inter is the worst team in the Eastern Conference with only one point out of the 15 played so far, which places them in the basement, three points behind Montreal, second to last in that zone.
Even more complicated is the fact that the club managed by Neville is the one with the worst goal difference with -10, having scored only three goals against the 13 they have conceded.
Booed
In their most recent match, Inter Miami was defeated 3-1 by Houston Dynamo, a result that caused them to leave the DRV PNK Stadium amidst the booing of their fans after a terrible night that began with the delay of the match for almost two hours due to a storm.
Once the match got underway, the home team showed a certain willingness to shake off their bad streak and pressured the Houston Dynamo from their own half, managing to take possession of the ball and impose their style. However, the Texan team scored the first goal of the night through the Colombian Carlos Darwin Quintero, at the 49th minute.
Eight minutes later, Fafa Picault extended the Dynamo’s lead to 2-0.
Forced by the situation, Inter Miami went forward and through a penalty kick by Argentine Gonzalo Higuan scored their only goal of the match 2-1, in the 66th minute.
In stoppage time, Picault sealed the visitors’ victory 3-1, in the 93rd minute.
