TODAY: Strong to severe storms are possible by Wednesday afternoon with damaging winds, hail, and even a brief tornado all possible, according to Storm Center 7 Meteorologist Kirstie Zontini.

>> SEVERE WEATHER: Difference between Watch vs. Warning

The Storm Prediction Center has expanded the threat for severe weather from marginal to slight for more of the Miami Valley, meaning a better chance of severe weather.

Some expected showers this morning were not widespread and that will only increase the instability in the atmosphere this afternoon. By the early afternoon storms will start to develop with the best timing for severe weather being between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.

>>Severe weather season is here. Are you prepared?

As the storms move through that part of the afternoon, damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph will be possible. Storms that develop could also bring hail and a brief, isolated tornado.

Outside of the storms it will be a windy day with non-thunderstorm wind gusts between 30 and 40 mph. The wind combined with the saturated ground could lead to some downed trees and some power outages.

Highs this afternoon will reach the upper 60s. Storms will taper off this evening.

THURDAY: Mostly cloudy with the slight chance of light showers and seasonable temperatures. Highs in the lower 50s.

FRIDAY: Partly to mostly cloudy with a few showers. Highs near 50 degrees.

SATURDAY: Mostly cloudy with a chance for showers. These rain showers could be mixed with a few snowflakes early in the day. Cool with temperatures only in the lower to middle 40s during the afternoon.

SUNDAY: Partly cloudy in the morning, turning mostly sunny in the afternoon. Cool with highs in the lower to middle 40s.

MONDAY: Partly sunny and milder. Highs in the lower 50s.

TUESDAY: Mostly cloudy with a few passing showers on Tuesday. It will be a milder day with highs near 60 degrees.
