Acosta: “The fans give us motivation that is indescribable”
As Inter Miami CF’s home opener against the Chicago Fire inches closer, players and fans alike are gearing up to be fully prepared to kick off an exciting 2022 campaign.
Newly acquired defender Chris McVey highlighted the success of the team’s preseason ahead of the club taking on its third Major League Soccer (MLS) season.
“The preseason felt great. We won the preseason tournament and that was a great feeling… Of course there are things we are still working on, but I would say it’s been a great preseason,” said McVey.
McVey also dove into the chemistry he’s developing with fellow center back Damion Lowe and how everyone on the First Team knows their role as they aim to help Inter Miami achieve its goals in 2022.
“Lately I’ve been playing a lot with Damion beside me, so I talk a lot with him about how we are working defensively, where we’re supposed to be, when we have to have each others’ back when someone is pressing. That’s been really good and we’ve also had a lot of good talks off the pitch about how we want to [defend together]. We both talk and like to lead the team from the back. We have a good dialogue,” he detailed.
“We want to build a team that whoever plays, it’s going to have the same effect and the same results. It won’t matter who plays, all [the players] know what they’re supposed to be doing and it’s going to be good.”
The Swedish-American defender then previewed Saturday’s fixture at DRV PNK Stadium against Chicago.
“It’s probably going to be a tough game [against Chicago]. We’ll be ready for it. We need to be tight, be aggressive, step on the guy, have coverage if someone steps. They have some really good players and if they dribble past one of our guys we have to be there covering and helping each other out,” stated McVey.
Midfielder George Acosta, meanwhile, made a call for all fans to cheer on Inter Miami as they have done to date, citing it as a boost for the players on the pitch.
“I expect to see our fans there, I expect a great atmosphere and Inter Miami will fight for a win. When you’re playing out there and the fans are cheering like that, they give you some sort of motivation that is indescribable. It helps a lot when all of our fans are supporting us [at DRV PNK Stadium],” concluded the Miami native.
