What’s Open, Closed For Presidents Day 2022 In Miami
MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FL — Many Miami area workers and students get to enjoy a long weekend for Presidents Day, which is honored Monday.
The holiday was established in 1885 to recognize the birthday of President George Washington, according to History.com. It became known as Presidents Day in 1971 when Congress passed the Uniform Monday Holiday Act to create more three-day weekends for workers in the United States.
As a federal holiday, Presidents Day could affect the hours of government offices, libraries, public transportation, garbage pickup and other services in Miami-Dade County.
Before you head out Monday, here’s a roundup up what’s open and closed on Presidents Day in the Miami area:
Miami-Dade County government offices: All offices will be closed Monday.
Transportation and Public Works: Metrobus, Metrorail and Metromover will operate on its regular weekday schedule. Administrative offices will be closed.
Solid Waste Management: There will be no interruption to waste and recycling service’s normal schedule. Administrative offices will also be closed.
Miami-Dade Public Libraries: All public libraries will be closed Monday.
Miami-Dade County Public Schools: All public schools, and regional and district offices closed will be closed Monday.
City of Miami government offices: All city offices and facilities will be closed Monday.
City of Miami Solid Waste Department: Garbage, bulky trash and recycling services will operate on its regular schedule.
