WBB Rallies But Falls Short At Miami


OXFORD, Ohio – The Central Michigan women’s basketball team fell into a double-digit deficit in the first quarter on Saturday and could not recover, falling to Miami (Ohio), 90-77, in a Mid-American Conference women’s basketball game at the RedHawks’ Millett Hall.
 
The Chippewas are 4-19, 2-12 MAC. They are scheduled to play at Akron (11-8, 8-5) in a league game on Wednesday, Feb. 16 (7 p.m.).
 
The Chippewas trailed by 11, 27-16, after one quarter and were down 18, 54-36, at halftime.
 
CMU trailed by as many as 24 points in the second half but made a fourth-quarter charge to pull within 11, 84-73, with just over two minutes remaining.
 
CMU hit 11 3-pointers but went 0-for-3 from long distance in the final 3:48.
 
Molly Davis led the Chippewas with 24 points, Tiana Timpe added 16, Hanna Knoll added 15, and Jahari Smith had 14 points and 14 rebounds for her ninth double-double of the season. She also had three blocks.
 
Timpe made five 3-pointers and Davis had four. The pair combined to finish 9-for-20 from long range.
 
Miami outrebounded the Chippewas, 44-33, and finished with a 46-26 advantage in points in the paint. CMU made just 14 of its 25 free throw attempts (56 percent).
 
Peyton Scott scored 24 points to lead Miami (8-14, 4-9).
