While the 2021 Miami Marlins season ended last October, there were a few familiar names who played in various different winter leagues across the last 2-3 months. Here is a look at four Marlins who impressed during the 2021-22 Dominican Winter League.

Jesus Sanchez
Likely cemented as a starter in the Miami Marlins 2022 outfield picture, Jesus Sanchez appeared in only 18 games with Toros del Este where the 24-year-old slashed .324/.429/.465 with every appearance defensively coming in right field. Included in Sanchez’s 23 total hits were 10 doubles, as well as eight RBI’s with 12 walks and 15 strikeouts.
Huascar Brazoban
A minor league free agent signing by Miami back in January, the 32-year-old right-hander made a total of 21 relief appearances with Gigantes del Cibao. Included in those 19.2 IP for Brazoban were a 2-0 record with a 0.46 ERA, as well as five walks and 25 strikeouts.
Bryan De La Cruz
De La Cruz appeared in 16 games on the same team as Sanchez, Toros del Este, in which he slashed a combined .226/.290/.339 with one home run and 12 RBI’s. Spending all but one game defensively in centerfield, De La Cruz also added four doubles, as well as drawing five walks to 12 strikeouts.
Erik Gonzalez
Another minor league free agent signing by the Marlins so far this offseason, Gonzalez appeared in a total of 30 games with Leones del Escogido. Spending a majority of his time defensively at shortstop (also saw time at third base), the 30-year-old slashed a combined .266/.322/.303 with nine RBI’s and four stolen bases, as well as drawing eight walks with 29 strikeouts.
Looking ahead to the 2022 season as well, Sanchez and De La Cruz will begin the year with Miami in the major leagues, while Brazoban and Gonzalez will likely begin the year with Triple-A Jacksonville.
