Miami football adds 2026 game versus Central Michigan
The Miami football program has added Central Michigan to their 2026 schedule according to Susan Miller Degnan of the Miami Herald. Miami will host the Chippewas on September 26. Miami also has non-conference games scheduled against Florida A&M on September 12, BYU on September 19 and South Carolina.
Miami and South Carolina will play at a date to be determined. The Hurricanes defeated Central Michigan 17-12 in their only meeting in 2019. The Miami football team will open the 2023 season against Central Michigan’s Mid American Conference rival Miami (Ohio). The Hurricanes beat Miami 54-3 in 1987.
Central Michigan was 8-6 in 2019 and won the MAC West. The Chippewas lost in the MAC title game to Miami. Central Michigan was 9-4 in 2021. The Chippewas replaced Miami in the Sun Bowl this season. Central Michigan defeated Washington State 24-21 for their first bowl win over a Power Five opponent.
Miami is 6-0 all-time against MAC opponents. In addition to the wins over Central Michigan and Miami, the Hurricanes are 1-0 against Northern Illinois and 3-0 versus Toledo. The Hurricanes last lost to a Group of Five opponent in 2019. Miami lost to FIU in the 2019 regular season and Louisiana Tech in the Independence Bowl.
Miami begins the 2022 season by hosting Bethune-Cookman on September 3. Southern Mississippi comes to Hard Rock Stadium on September 10 before Miami travels to Texas A&M on September 19 and returns home to play Middle Tennessee State on September 26. Miami also has an ACC crossover game at Clemson.
Other than games against Notre Dame, Miami has a partial schedule of non-conference games through 2030 when they play at Auburn. Other future Group of Five opponents for Miami include Temple, another MAC opponent Ball State, BYU and a three-game series with South Florida between 2025 and 2028.
Future Power Five non-conference opponents for Miami are Texas A&M, Florida, Notre Dame, South Carolina and Auburn. Miami had a game at Michigan State and Temple canceled in 2020 because of Covid. The potential is that the Hurricanes could reschedule the games against the Spartans and Owls.
