Miami Dade College to Honor Dr. Martin Luther King’s Legacy with Week of Service Jan. 13 – 20


Miami, Jan. 12, 2022 – Miami Dade College (MDC) will honor the life, legacy and service of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with a week of service, Jan. 13 – 20, during which time students will volunteer in outreach and service projects throughout Miami. Student participation is organized through MDC’s Institute for Civic Engagement and Democracy (ICED) and Student Life.

Below is a schedule of activities:

Thursday, Jan. 13

9 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Medical Campus Black Heritage Committee’s Farm Share & Day of Service

MDC Medical Campus Parking Garage, 1000 NW 20th St., Miami, FL 33127

Collect fresh food and produce. The distribution is drive-thru only.

Friday, Jan. 14

10 a.m. – 12 p.m.

North Campus Earth Ethics Institute’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service

MDC North Campus (gardens adjacent to the Science Complex), 11380 NW 27th Ave.

Help maintain, harvest, and expand the gardens on campus that directly feed students and individuals in the community.

Student Life, iCED, and Miami-Dade County Parks & Recreation’s Day of Service at Crandon Park

Removing microplastics and trash to keep ocean ecosystems healthy.

Clean-up the shoreline, remove invasive plants, and meet non-profits throughout the county.

Remove microplastics & invasive species, plant native plants, and beautify a decommissioned sailboat.
