Tua Tagovailoa shares true feelings on future in Miami
As the Miami Dolphins are on the doorsteps of being officially eliminated from playoff contention, there is now growing talk on whether Tua Tagovailoa will be the team’s starting quarterback for the 2022 season.
Still, for the second-year passer, he is simply focused on what he can “control” at this point in the season, which he touched on following the Dolphins’ loss to the Tennessee Titans in Week 17.
“I think people have their own opinions,” Tagovailoa said. “I’ve heard this the entire time I’ve been here so at the end of the day, I can control what I can control and that’s to be the best version of myself for this team. We’ve got to move on to the next game at this point. We’ll look at the mistakes that we’ve made, make some corrections and move on.”
Tagovailoa was the subject of a multitude of trade rumors earlier in the campaign. For one, the Dolphins were linked with a move for Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson. In the end, the NFL trade deadline came and went, as the team elected against completing such a move.
Even as his name was a regular in the trade rumor mill over the early portions of the season, Tagovailoa at the least appreciated head coach Brian Flores’ “transparency” over the matter. The former Alabama Crimson Tide star noted that Flores kept him “in the loop” regarding the constant trade rumors.
As it stands, the Dolphins may soon be turning their full attention to the upcoming offseason, as a win by the Los Angeles Chargers over the Denver Broncos in Week 17 would see them be eliminated from playoff contention.
From there, the rumors surrounding Tagovailoa’s future with the Dolphins may once again be a talking point in the NFL, even after he guided the team to a crucial winning streak over the past few months.
