Persistent rain causes Miami Conservancy District to monitor flood protection dams – WHIO TV 7 and WHIO Radio
MIAMI VALLEY — The Miami Conservancy District (MCD) says four of their five flood protection dams are temporarily holding back floodwater upstream of Great Miami River cities in the Miami Valley.
Local rivers have risen at Lockington, Englewood, Taylorsville and Germantown following persistent rains on December 25 and 28.

The National Weather Service and Community Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow Network reported that the average rainfall in the Miami Valley ranged between 0.75″ and 1.5″ from Dec. 25 and 28. During that timeframe, Dayton recorded 1.47″ of rain; Wilmington 1.02″; Springfield 1.49; Wapakoneta 1.67″.
MCD said their operations staff were monitoring river levels in the downstream cities and will close “any necessary floodgates at the ends of city storm sewers to prevent the river from rising through those pipes into the streets.”
